New 2020 Challenger Drag Pak unveiled

The 2020 Mopar Dodge Challenger Drag Pak, unveiled at the 2019 SEMA Show, delivers sportsman racers a new, turnkey package loaded with suspension and chassis upgrades and is certified for NHRA and NMCA competition.

The new fourth-generation Challenger Drag Pak offers racers the choice of buying a complete, turnkey package ready for the track with a supercharged 354-ci Hemi V-8 or a variety of modular kits to install on their own Dodge Challenger drag car. Production is limited to 50 serialized units.

‘John Force Edition’ COPO Camaro to be auctioned

Also at the SEMA Show, Chevrolet introduced the 2020 COPO Camaro John Force Edition. Chevrolet will auction the COPO Camaro John Force Edition at the 2020 Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale event in January, with the proceeds going to DonorsChoose.org. It carries a unique “2020COPO-FORCE” identification plaque and is considered a unique build in the COPO Camaro range – not part of the annual production run of 69 COPO Camaro race cars.

“John Force is one of the most legendary drag racers in history – and his legend started with Chevrolet,” said Jim Campbell, GM U.S. vice president of Performance and Motorsports. “We are proud to partner with him on this one-of-a-kind COPO Camaro and are excited to see what it will do on the auction block for charity.”

“This is a great-looking COPO Camaro, and I enjoyed helping design this car,” said Force. “The COPO Camaro is already a formidable car, and hard to beat on the track. But this one is even more special, as it will help support a cause I firmly believe in.”

Additionally, a black-and-silver paint scheme inspired by the John Force Edition is an available option on 2020 COPO Camaros.

Todd reminds Californians about health insurance at NHRA Finals

Kalitta Motorsports and J.R. Todd, driver of the DHL Toyota Funny Car, are partnering with Covered California during the NHRA season finale at Auto Club Raceway at Pomona, Nov. 15-17 to help spread the word to California racing fans that open enrollment is underway for 2020.

Covered California is the state’s health insurance marketplace, and the only place where Californians can get financial help to purchase high-quality coverage from top insurance companies. The Covered California logo will appear on the rear wing of Todd’s Toyota Camry Funny Car throughout the NHRA Finals.

Buy your own land speed vehicle

We told you yesterday about the “Bloodhound” land speed vehicle project and if you’re interested in pursuing your own land speed, here’s the deal about another streamliner we have told you about in the past.

Danny Thompson’s 1968 “Challenger 2” streamliner will be for sale at the Mecum Auction held Jan. 2-12 in Kissimmee, FL. Danny is the son of the late Mickey Thompson. “Challenger 2” holds the record for the fastest piston-powered vehicle at 448.757 mph.

Just one race left as Cory Mac calls it a career

“Cory Mac” will drive Dexter Tuttle’s dragster at Pomona as he did at Dallas and Las Vegas. Doug Kuch and Tony Shortall are co-crew chiefs.

Cory McClenathan has 34 Top Fuel victories and two U.S. Nationals wins (1996 and 1999), but he only has one more NHRA national event before he will end his career.

In more than 20 years in the class he also won the Top Fuel vs. Funny Car Winston Showdown event in 2000, swept the Western Swing in 1997, and won the inaugural NHRA Four-Wide Nationals in 2010. He also was the first to exceed 320 mph and the first to run quicker than 4.8 seconds.

Strange Engineering 2-Piece Brake Rotors

Strange Engineering has been an innovator in drag racing brakes for over 20 years. From developing lightweight brake components, directional calipers and superior brake pad compounds, they are now proud to introduce the next step in braking technology. The Strange Engineering 2-piece rotors utilize a unique floating rotor design that allows for axial and radial growth as temperatures increase. The field-tested lug design reduces warping and coning tendencies of the rotor. In addition, the spiral lock retention eliminates the possibility of loose bolts and the need for safety wire as well as reducing rotating weight. The Strange 2-piece rotors can replace existing Strange rotors or be upgraded into any of their front or rear brake kit assemblies.
