New look for Todd, Crampton to end NHRA season

DHL sponsored Kalitta Motorsports teammates J.R. Todd and Richie Crampton will each race specially designed DHL 50th anniversary race cars during the final two NHRA national events to be contested in Las Vegas and Pomona, CA. Todd’s Toyota Camry Funny Car and Crampton’s Top Fuel dragster will be adorned with a throwback DHL logo alongside the current DHL livery.

“I have had an excellent business relationship with DHL since 1989,” said Connie Kalitta, owner of Kalitta Air. “They have been a great business partner off the track and for over two decades we have enjoyed tremendous success on the track with our motorsports sponsorship relationship. They are part of the Team Kalitta family and we are excited to celebrate their 50-year anniversary during our 60-year celebration.”

Since 2007 DHL and Kalitta Motorsports have been partners in one of the most successful sponsorships in motorsports.

Kalitta and sponsor team up for NFF charity

Team Kalitta and Global Electronic Technology are teaming up again to work with the Never Forgotten Foundation to help underprivileged and at-risk families this holiday season. The two companies are teaming up with Ytel to offer NHRA fans the chance to donate via text and also win prizes for their generosity.

Fans can text “NFF” to 411-411 and they will receive information and instructions for the Race 2 Fight Hunger. For every $5 donated fans receive an entry into a raffle for racing themed prizes including race tickets and autographed merchandise.

Fans can begin donating immediately and Team Kalitta is also running decals with the donation information on Shawn Langdon’s nitro Funny Car. Donations will be collected through Thanksgiving. NFF is a 501(c) non-profit organization founded in 2008 by Global Electronic Technology owner Steven Bryson and his family.

Electrical problem fixed, Spinozzi ready for Australian season opener

Emilio Spinozzi has been making more test runs than almost anyone else in the Pro Slammer field ahead of he and brother Adamo's sophomore season in the 400 Thunder Professional Drag Racing Series, which begins on Nov. 1-2 at Sydney Dragway's East Coast Thunder event.

The driver of the 3,000 horsepower Terra Civil Chevelle has had a busier off season than most, as the team discovered a nagging electrical issue that had been holding back their potential.

“We have been chasing a problem with the two-step that has been hindering our efforts and it looks like we have got on top of that,” Emilio said.

“The crew have been working extremely hard in the off season and the boys have been amazing; it is bloody hard work. My crew chief, Michael Marriott, has been working hard at this and Darren Mayer has been an awesome help. We are looking forward to having a good crack at the 400 Thunder championship.”

Off the Track: DRAW reaches $5M milestone in aid given

On the eve of DRAW’S 35TH anniversary in 2020, the drag racer’s charitable organization has surpassed a rather significant milestone. In August, DRAW had paid $5 million in financial assistance to 947 families.

After a successful fund raiser to help Shirley Muldowney after her violent accident in 1984, a group of professional racer’s wives decided that if the drag racing community was willing to help one racer, they might be willing to help many more. It turns out they were correct. In 1985, this idea was turned into the Drag Racing Association of Women and became a 501(3)(c) charity.

DRAW’s purpose is to provide assistance to drivers and crew members injured in a drag racing accident. DRAW continues to be an all-volunteer group, with no paid employees and no offices. To donate or volunteer, go to www.drawonline.org for more information.
