On Friday, at the COMP Cams Street Car Super Nationals 15 Presented by FuelTech held at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Randy Merick set a track record for supercharged doorslammers with his Q2 run of 5.550 seconds at 257.19 mph in his 1979 Corvette.
On Saturday, Nov. 23, Ronnie Hobbs and his ’17 Mustang continued their hot streak with a 3.736-second run in E1 of Crower Radial vs. The World, beating his own qualifying-topping ET of 3.766 seconds set earlier in the day. The pass also set a new event radial tire record.

Despite rain delays and power outages pushing the finals of all four races to Saturday, four winners were crowned Sunday night at the inaugural SFG Big Fun event presented by Summit Racing Equipment at Tucson Dragway.
Curtis Zinzilieta took an impressive win with his footbrake entry in the FTI $50,000-to-win race, Chuck Hawk Jr. won the first $5,000-to-win No Box Shootout, Andy Schmall won the second No Box Shootout, and Jeff Taylor (shown) won the Summit Racing Equipment $50,000-to-win race. [11/25/19]
Debuting a brand-new dragster, Todd Robinson (Corpus Christi) certainly had no new-car blues as he marched through the Super Pro field.
Alamo City Motorplex near San Antonio, TX, held a pre-Thanksgiving Special, the Fall Turkey Shootout, on Nov. 23. The day started out with a bracket race for the Super Pro, Pro, Motorcycles and Jr. Dragsters.

Larry Fisher, Executive Director of the NHRA Motorsports Museum, passed away Friday evening, Nov. 22, at Loma Linda Medical Center in California. Fisher began his work with the museum in 2012.
“Larry made many contributions to the museum including building greater awareness of its mission and improving the educational elements of museum programs,” said Tom McKernan, chairman of the NHRA Motorsports Museum board. “His love and commitment for the museum and motorsports history as well as his robust experience will be greatly missed. Our thoughts, prayers and deepest sympathies are with his family during this difficult time.” [11/25/19]
Lee Ann Gliha, who has strong business background in live event companies, has been elected to the NHRA Board of Directors. She will join current board members Michael Cohen, Ed Desser, Peter Clifford and Glen Cromwell, effective December 3, 2019.
Gliha’s background includes serving as Executive Vice President, Corporate Finance at Live Nation, a leading live entertainment company. Gliha has applied her business skills both at Live Nation and in investment banking, including her current position as Managing Director at Jefferies LLC where she focuses on media and entertainment companies.
Gliha graduated summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa with a B.A. in Economics from Claremont McKenna College. The NHRA says she is very familiar with NHRA, its business and its events.
The Agent recalls that several years ago Ms. Gliha was Managing Director of investment bank Houlihan Lokey where she was working to find a buyer for the NHRA professional series after former NHRA president Tom Compton’s sale to HD Partners fell through in 2007. [11/25/19]
The Agent hears that newly crowned Top Fuel champion Steve Torrence was fined $25,000 by NHRA for his behavior towards Cameron Ferre after their race at the final event of the season. He reportedly is also to attend anger management classes. The fine is 5% of his prize money for the 2019 championship. [11/25/19]
The Rowe Memorial event scheduled to be held Nov. 23 at Adelaide International Raceway in Australia was cancelled after multiple electrical issues caused delays that could not be resolved.
“When track staff arrived at Adelaide International Raceway this morning they discovered that the UPS – which protects the sensitive timing equipment by providing an uninterrupted power supply – had for a reason that is currently unknown ‘blown up’,” ANDRA Chief Executive Officer, Brett Stevens, explained.
“Subsequent damage was discovered in the computer system and the track moved swiftly to swap in a new computer so that qualifying could be started, and the first round of qualifying was successfully held.
During the second round further faults were found and traced to a problem in the cabling between the tower and the starting line. Attempts were made to lay new cable, but could not be completed with certainty to continue racing.
Daniel Camilleri led the Super Comp qualifying.
Before a pause was brought to the on-track action, the first round of qualifying was successfully held for all participating Summit Racing Equipment Sportsman Series brackets and the following racers will be awarded as the DecoGlaze Glass Splashbacks Victoria Top Qualifiers: Daniel Carranza (Summit Racing Equipment Junior Dragster), Jake Hamilton-Moderate (Modified Bike), Robyn Phillis (Super Street), Lance Larcombe (Super Sedan), Adam Mundy (Modified), Darren Saliba (Top Sportsman), Phill Paton (Competition Bike), Daniel Camilleri (SuperComp), Christine Steffens (Supercharged Outlaws) and Jason Wilson (Super Gas).
The Summit Racing Equipment Sportsman Series will next race at Portland’s South Coast Raceway for the South Coast Nationals on Dec. 14-15.[11/25/19]
