Anderson hopes for two wins in a row

Greg Anderson earned the 91st Pro Stock win of his career last week at Denver, but, frustratingly, it was only the first win of the 2018 season.

"Until last week, it was like we had forgotten how to win, but maybe this reminded us,” Anderson said. “The thing is, nobody in the class is going to do it by dominance this year. Nobody is going to roll into the Countdown to the Championship with a huge point lead. Everybody is able to win right now, and nobody is safe. You better learn how to get knocked in the nose and get back up off the mat, because that’s going to happen a lot for the rest of the season. If you want to win, you have to get up and get back in the game; you can't quit, no matter how bloody your nose gets."

Schumacher teams will donate brains for concussion research

NHRA mega team owner Don Schumacher and his entire race team made history when Schumacher and his seven drivers all collectively signed up to donate their brains upon death for concussion research at the Concussion Legacy Foundation.

Many football players and other athletes have individually announced over the last few years they would donate their brains. This was the first time an entire team agreed to do so and the first NHRA drivers to do so. Don Schumacher was also a driver years ago when safety equipment was not as extensive as now.

The drivers who agreed to the donation are Don’s son, Tony Schumacher (shown), Jack Beckman, Ron Capps, Antron Brown, Matt Hagan, Tommy Johnson, Jr. and Leah Pritchett.

They are donating their brains for further study of chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), which, unfortunately, can only be diagnosed after death.

The Agent could make a cute joke about this, but it is too important a subject. A tip of the Agent’s helmet and HANS device to the Schumacher team for helping science and making the sport safer for future drivers.

Palmyra receives funding for new surface

The Palmyra Drag Racing Club has announced it has received $160,000 of funding from the Australian Federal Government’s Building Better Regions Infrastructure Stream.

This funding commitment follows the club receiving $120,000 as part of the Palaszczuk Government re-election promise late in 2017, which played a significant part in the track being able to access this new level of funding which was announced recently.

The new funding will allow the track to lay a new hot mix surface down from just past the 60-foot mark (after the concrete) to 40 meters past the quarter-mile finish line on the 28-year-old surface. Upgrades to safety barriers will also be undertaken which will also help with flood water mitigation in the long term.

“Before we close up for repairs, we will be holding the Sunstates Pro Tree Shootout on the 17th and 18th of August – one day before we start the work – so this will be our last race on our old surface and a great way to close this chapter and get ready to open the next,” Palmyra Drag Racing Club President Glenn Cunningham said.

Bruton Smith’s dragstrips showing a profit?

Speedway Motorsports Inc. which owns/operates NHRA-sanctioned dragstrips in Charlotte, Las Vegas, Bristol, and Sonoma declared a 15-cent dividend for the last quarter. Judging from some of the sparse crowds seen on the televised NASCAR races, the Agent wonders if NHRA events had an influence on that action

MSD Pro Mag A/Fuel Power Grid Controller

Holley/MSD has released the Pro Mag A/Fuel Power Grid Controller and a large assortment of replacement ignition components. The Power Grid lets tuners make last-minute decisions right in the staging lanes, and the replacement parts include an array of eight different cables, harnesses, and magnetic pickups. MSD Pro Mag A/Fuel Power Grid Controllers allow drag racers to control ignition timing by time with either a PC or mobile device. Designed for use with the MSD Pro Mag 44, it has dual outputs so it can be used both single and dual Pro Mag 44 ignitions with a crank trigger system and MSD nonmagnetic pickups. With MSDView, you can create and store up to 12 unique timing maps that can be overlaid to help you select one right up to the last minute before the engine is fired. Timing curves can be programmed with up to 30 points at 0.1-degree increments at intervals of just a hundredth of a second. MSD Pro Mag A/Fuel Power Grid Controllers also feature individual cylinder timing, throttle-lift timing retard, throttle-inhibit timing retard, and a auto-pickup signal selector that triggers the dead channel if a crank-trigger pickup fails.
