Krawiec has 200-mph record on his mind at Gators

Krawiec’s Harley will be sporting the number ‘1’ this season.

Eddie Krawiec is the defending NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle champion who won last year at the NHRA Gatornationals in Gainesville, FL, and although he plans to win again this year, he has something else in mind for the first race of the 2018 season for the two-wheeled class.

“First and foremost, I want to go 200 mph,” the Scream’ Eagle Vanes & Hines Harley-Davidson racer said. “I’m excited to go to Gainesville because I think we have 200-mph motorcycles. We’re going there and hammering down. For us, if the weather presents itself, we want to go 200 mph. We have great motorcycles that can capitalize on the weather conditions if it’s there, so if the opportunity presents itself, we need to capitalize. There’s four to five bikes in the class that can do it, but we want to be the first. Going 200 mph is our focus.”

In Gainesville, he will face off against the likes of five-time champion and teammate Andrew Hines, 2016 world champ Jerry Savoie, two-time world champ Matt Smith, Hector Arana Jr., Scotty Pollacheck, Karen Stoffer, three-time champ Angelle Sampey, and Joey Gladstone.

“I only see this class getting tougher and you need to perform at that high level if you want to stay at the front of the pack,” said Krawiec, who has 43 career wins. “There’s 15-16 bikes that could be in the top 10. There’s really good bikes at every race and you’re going to have to be on your game. You have to elevate the way you race.”

Cobra Jet sets standing mile record at 208.80 mph

From left: Chris Johnson, James Meagher, Rick Hernandez and Eric Raymer teamed up for the record run on Feb. 10 at the Space Shuttle landing strip.

A factory-prepped, almost NHRA-legal 2008 Cobra Jet has beaten its own standing-mile record. Their new record was 208.806 mph; their old record was 196 mph. The run was made using water methanol from Snow, which is not NHRA legal.

“The 208.806-MPH hit was only the fourth standing-mile run on the car,” Johnson said. “Next up will be a switch to Super Cobra Jet specs using a 4.0-liter Whipple. Can you say 230 MPH?”
