Check Out That Chassis

11/8/2007

I am building a 1980 Camaro with a friend and, we are looking for a plan for weight reduction from the car.  Any suggestions for where we should dlook?

Todd Hill,

Todd this is a very wide open question, the best thing I can tell you is start with a plan and do your homework first this will save you a lot of time and money. If you are going to do this as a back half car plan ahead with the drive and cage placement so next year you can do the front half. Or you could just start by using just your body and do a full chassis, this will get you the lightest car. It is just a mater of how much time and money you want to spend.

I want to build  a NRHA  sportsman bracket car 12.5-13.5 e.t. on 9" slicks. I think the stock class cars must have there chassis working great. I want to use a 1980-? Camaro. What I need is books I can read to tell me how and what to do. THANK   YOU

Tommy,

If you don’t have a car yet you may want to look at an '82 on up Camaro. We make a complete rear suspension package that is all bolt in and is stock class legal. I have some customer with our torque arm that have run in the 8’s with high 1.20 60ft times, check our adds and or call me for a catalog, you can also see our installation instructions on-line at www.swracecars.com
