The complete 425" small-block Olds is sitting on the stand after returning from the R&R Performance dyno.

Tom found some interesting changes in the engines performance simply by trying a variety of carburetor spacer combinations. The standard 2” spacer did a good job, but the best horsepower was attained using a 1” open spacer on the intake and two 1” Dart “cloverleaf” spacers on top of that. The best carburetor proved to be a Holley HP 1000 (part #80513-1) right out of the box.

Headers were taken off the Cutlass to get the actual headers that would be on the car. The 1- 7/8” Kook’s Kustom Headers performed well.

Next month we will have had the Oldsmobil-ology Cutlass out for some testing and out first points race. We will keep you posted on how the 425” Olds performs and whether or not we “scraped the rear bumper”!!  Hang on! This ain’t your Daddy’s Oldsmobile!

Special thanks go to Tom and Lynn Hestness of R&S Racing, Chris Padgitt and Hailey Naylor from Comp Cams, and Bill Travato of BTR Performance.
