There seemed to be an emphasis on safety equipment this year at the PRI Show. There are several new Head and Neck restraint systems available and new ideas in safety harnesses. I am very interested in a HANS for son Andy and myself for 2007. The R3 head and neck restraint also looks like it would work well in drag racing applications. They have proved over and over the old wrap-around neck collar does about ZERO to prevent head and neck injuries. If you want to protect yourself, your son or daughter or your driver be sure to check out our two-issue tech series starting in February, “DRIVER SAFETY 101.” There will be a lot of great products features and a comprehensive list of manufacturers and dealers you can contact.

FLO-FAST has their new fuel transfer pump and fuel jugs on display. The pump works to either fill your fuel tank or siphon it out. Special grounding and retainer straps. The fuel jugs are super-duty and come in three sizes. I have been looking for an easier way to handle the 40-50 gallons of fuel Andy I go through in a race weekend, I think I found it.

Flo-Fast Fuel Transfer Systems had a nice display and an overdue idea. No more lugging 5-gallon fuel jugs around and carrying funnels. This system has an easy to use cart and hand pump. It has a grounding strap to prevent static sparks that could cause a fire. The pump will also work as a siphon to get fuel out of the racecar so it can be stored in a better container. If you run alcohol this can prevent moisture contaminating your racecar fuel cell during the week or weeks between events. They have three sizes of DOT-approved fuel jugs too, 5-gallon, 7.5-gallon and a neat little 15-gallon that doesn’t use much more floor space in your trailer.

TCI Transmissions and their PRO-X line has expanded. One of the new products on display was a Power-glide transmission pan that needs no gasket. It has a receiver-groove cut in it for an O-ring. That ought to simplify things when it needs service and prevent leaks.

TCI has cut a receiver groove in the rail of their deep aluminum Powerglide oil pan. No more leaking or slipping gaskets. This will be one popular option.

TCI has introduced a 1.64:1 low gear planetary for the powerglide. Machined from the finest billet material this planetary will help high horsepower cars hook at the start line and improve consistency.
