TAKE IT OR LEAVE IT

Please, save the safety soap-box for the politically correct! Don't need to legislate morality and don't need to legislate safety. Make it available, make it known and let people choose for themselves!

FANS UNDERSTAND MORE THAN MANAGEMENT DOES?

I cannot believe what I'm about to say, but I agree with Shirley (Muldowney)! Gaaaah, the words seem to burn in my throat, but she's right on the money with the statement that this so-called chase system bites the big one. What the #*$&% were Compton and the boys

smoking when they came up with this gem? Contrary to conventional wisdom, imitation is not the sincerest form of flattery, it is the sign of lack of imagination and innovation.

Here's a news flash for the NHRA brass - drag racing is not stock car racing! The demographics are similar, but the core of fans is vastly different. Most drag race fans are at heart hot rodders and have a pretty well honed appreciation of the technical side of the sport. I don't mean to deride NASCAR fans, but most of them lack the understanding of the actual mechanics of the cars. That's why they have cutaway vehicles set up and explain a bunch of very obvious details in order to “bring the fan on board” when something goes awry.

Please don't treat the fans in such condescending fashion by instigating a new and improved system, when the old system worked just fine and never needed tweaking in the first place.

SIMPLE MINDED?

I can just see the Glendora Gang's boardroom meeting: "Let's overhaul our points system like NASCAR's and grab some of their demographic, but we'll keep it a secret from nearly everyone it affects until it's locked in."

REALLY weak BS that punishes the racers that spent the first 17 races earning their points by winning rounds and races. If you're not in the hunt at the end of the season, too bad. Try again next year.

There was nothing wrong with the points system as is and it shouldn't have been changed. Simple as that.
