A PAGE TURNER

Jeff, you really hit the nail on the head in your latest rambling! As you know, I've been immersed in the sport all of my life. I still remember waiting six months to see either the Winters or Indy on the "Wide World of Sports." Man, I almost think that would be preferable to what we have now! Watching Page is like pullin' teeth, with no Novocain!

I was kinda slow to warm up to Marty Reid, but he really grows on ya, and after watching him work the Indy 500, as well as what he does for our sport, he has proved himself as a

good announcer. You can tell he actually likes racing. Paul Page, not so much! Since our sport has to pay for play on ESPN, you would think that we could chose the broadcast team. Mike Dunn is a little dry sometimes, but knows what he is doing and Gary Gerould is almost as good at the finish line as Steve Evans. So, the bulk of the team is really good, but Page MUST go! The ratings are already in the toilet, and Paul is gonna drive off the rest of the faithful. NHRA is tone deaf to this issue, kinda like the U.S. Senate on illegal immigration!

Now I was just wondering … why in the world would the NHRA schedule a race on Memorial Day weekend? You have wall to wall Indy and Charlotte, two of the biggest races of the year! Yeah, the drags coverage was on later, but after 1100 miles of going in circles, a lot of fans might be too dizzy to watch 3 hours of Page and "Sez." I mean they are off this weekend, why not dispatch some of our stars to those events and try to get them some face time on Sunday in front of a large audience, then race this weekend? To their credit, Snake and Melanie Troxel did get some coverage from Indy. Ahhh...what do I know?

Thanks again for a great read!

Best regards,
