SO LONG, DAVE #5

"...the passion is gone and so am I......."

Wow Dave, that’s heavy and for a damn good reason. I haven't gone to a Fri.-Sun. race in long while for all the reasons you bring up in your column. Thursday was great, because I could sit at the 1000' club and listen to the old turds bench race and such and not shell out a ton 'o bucks. Last year we did pay the big ducets to park close though (easy access to the ole ice chest ya know and it wasn't my 20 bucks!). But never again.

I will never set foot inside an NHRA National Event again and the Schumacher thing has a lot to do with my decision. I will watch it on TV though, because I love the sport so much and I can flip the channel when ads come on and I can scratch my crotch if I want to or have a beer that only cost $6.00 for the whole damn 6-pack!!

Keep me informed when a column runs and I will look forward to reading it. You go, you grumpy ole bastard!

Love yez,
Garry Fish

Hey Dave.
I just wanted to take a minute to tell you how much I have enjoyed your work on DRO and in other publications. I couldn’t agree more about the state of the sport as you describe it in your farewell column.

I am pleased that you will be delivering longer stories dealing with the “then”, as opposed to the “now” (we are inundated with NASCAR like overexposure) which are always so well written and factual.

I will be ordering “Seven second love affair” from hotrodnostaliga.com and look forward to more from the site.

Best wishes,
Terry Spencer

Sorry you’re burned out, buddy. But I can see where you’re coming from. You know, the starting deal at Pomona with Gomer, AJ & Stewart was bad, but in my opinion - the deal with Bazemore losing his ride with 5 races to go was much, much worse.

It made me sick, & the fact that the guy who lost his seat was trying to tell everyone it’s ok & he understands makes me want to puke.

So do what you can to keep the memory alive of what it all used to be like.

Last night Pat & Wayne Minick were out here at my shop checking out the recreation of their famous Fuel Funny car. We were talking about the stuff that went down at Pomona and I was bitching about the currant state of Nitro - Money rules all - Wayne said, but you know, that's the way it's always been. I said, that's not how it was in ‘82 & ‘83. Both of them looked sad and said, yeah, you’re right.

God bless you for seeing the light! I just wanted to compliment you on growing a brain and joining me in the f*ck the idiots at NHRA club. I had my belly full of it after spending hundreds of thousands of my own company’s money to race in the pay to watch yourself

race NHRA/Lucas series for years. After I worked my ass off to win the NHRA Championship in 2004 while at the same time setting a new National record of 5.10 in TAD the brains at NHRA kicked me right square in the b*lls with a rule change. The sixth rule change that I had dealt with in no less than 4 years trying to slow us down to oil dripper status…parity I believe they call it.

Oh by they way, they hit the A fuelers with a weight increase again this year. The sport is about as exciting as rope burn these days. How about we go spend $100.00 a ticket to watch one of Force’s funny cars lay down against each other. Or how about Evan Knoll -- we could watch one of his (what is it now 6 or 7 top fuelers) race each other. Or maybe Whit can throw a tantrum to make Top Fuel enjoyable amongst the carnage. I have not even touched on the Schumacher joke. I will leave that up to you as your article pretty much said it all.
