WHAT A CONCEPT

I have attended the LDRS race in Denver the last 6 years.  Each year I am amazed by the crowd they bring in. They do this by

promoting the race with a local oil change business. More tracks need to follow their example.

WAIT TIL THE SUN GOES DOWN

I was reading the interview with Lee Beard. I noticed that he commented on track conditions, which led me to wonder why NHRA doesn’t run night races. It is really difficult to run a track that has a 130 degree surface (such as Denver in the summer). If the same race was run at night, you'd have better traction and better air; plus, the fans would get to see the header flames. Growing up in the Los Angeles area, I used to go to night races all the time, at Lions and OCIR, etc. The racing was always quicker and the show was better. I've never understood why NHRA and IHRA won't run a night race. Seems to me that a cooler track would provide a better racing surface; not to mention better conditions for the spectators. Hard core as I am, I don't much care for baking in the heat with no shade so I can watch the races.

If I recall correctly, in the old days, the final rounds of all the sportsman eliminators were shown as part of the National event coverage after the pro classes were run. Even if they were given a speeded up version, at least they got some coverage. Is that correct?

I'd rather see wheelstanding Stockers and Super Stockers as a preference to the pro entertainment portion!!

PAST HIS BEDTIME

I enjoy reading DRO. All of you folks are doing a fine job. I like to watch NHRA on ESPN almost all the time except when on very late.

THIS IS YOUR LIFE

I know it has been done and redone, but I always liked the “where are they now” articles. A good start would be Jeb Allen, Gary Back, Frank Bradley and Jerry Ruth
