SLEEP YOUR WAY TO VICTORY
I enjoyed your road trip story.
I wonder if NHRA thought someone could get into Countdown not winning a race, but still be in the final eight?

KEEP ‘EM COMING
Great story, Jeff, and reminiscent of many of our cohorts’ early adventures, I'm sure. We're waiting for more.

LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL
Hey Jeff, I along with Jim Fox could write a book on the many tales of road trips many times of the ramp truck wheels coming off or the body blowing off and landing in a river etc, etc, but life was good and we had fun.

YOU’RE LUCKY BURK REMEMBERS THE STORY, LET ALONE WHAT CLASS
Just read your story about Amarillo. I'm from Lubbock myself. Are you sure about Caudle's car? I remember him always running C Modified Production and having the National Record for that class. Were you there the year they held the World Finals? That was what got me hooked on drag racing. All the big names were there, Bid Daddy, Shirley, Tommy Ivo, Glidden, and more.

AND HERE’S ANOTHER ONE
Good story--One of the funniest ones I ever heard was about an old friend of mine and his B/G Willys. They were flat towing to the old Carlisle Drag-O-Way in Carlisle, Arkansas. It was before I-40 was finished and they were on old Highway 70 at a stop light in Carlisle. After a late night thrash, one of the guys rode to the track inside the race car to finish some wiring. A local hot rodder pulled along side and revved up his motor at the stop light. My buddy said about that time, he heard the gasser fire up and knew what was about to happen. Said he sure wished he had a picture of the guy’s face when the B/G Willys pushed his ‘57 Ford past him with 4 tires smoking!!!

THE GOOD OLD DAYS
Great Road Tale #1!
I guess most of us have had a similar experience. Mine was an open trailer with race car onboard that went into oscillation from a cross-wind while towing up a steep hill on I-87 in the Catskill Mountains while returning from racing at Englishtown. I managed to jackknife the rig into the center median, break the load binders, have the race car come off the trailer and damage the entire side of the race car and tear the trailer hitch almost off the truck. This after driving 4 hours each way to E-Town only to break the rear diff on the first run...
Oh, the fun of drag racing!
