MORE TECH INFO

It seems you forgot SCE Gaskets in Lancaster, CA. Early in 2005, SCE started selling the Titan Copper Head Gasket. This copper head gasket has all the advantages of copper without the problems. All water and oil passages have sealer applied to the gasket. This is not a rubber coating. More on the lines of a silicone sealer. There is also a copper head gasket that has a wire sealing ring embedded in the gasket to seal the combustion. I sold these gaskets and have had no problems in Turbo applications. Buick 3.8 liter and 5.0 Mustangs they have saved several teams from expensive machine work. Talk to Ken Detweiler about these gaskets, he tested them on his dyno and burnt up an engine without damage to the head gasket.

JUST TRYING TO STAY AWAKE

In response to the "forced to watch stupid motorcycles and boring Pro Stocks forever" and "NHRA not progressive compared to NASCAR."

If the NHRA replaces PSB and P/S with Pro Mod then every pro class will be nitro-based (only one fuel in NASCAR). Hmmm, that’s progressive! If Pro Stock car is replaced then the sportsman classes have no "Pro" level of competition to ascend to from their entertaining show.

I do not know how NASCAR makes so much money. Look at their show, all vehicles must have near identical body shape, engine specs (inc bore shape, diameter and length of stroke), fuel used, and soon to be chassis... SNORE...

Just a couple if thoughts.

Sorry Burk, you must have missed the FedEx Cup... Golf's version of the countdown. I am with you on the thumbs down vote on the Countdown. Although (slightly) better than rolling the dice, it is way too hokey.

GIVE ‘COUNTDOWN’ A TUNE-UP

I agree with those who say that the Countdown is here to stay. So let's make the best of it by tweaking the format to improve it so that a true champion can be determined. Here is my suggestion: now that we know the 2008 schedule will be 24 races, make the first cut after the 12th race at Norwalk and that cut will be to 10 cars. Make the next cut after the 18th race at Indy and that cut will be to 6 cars. Then the champion will be determined over the last 6 races of the season. With this format the first cut is exactly when the season is half over, and the second cut is exactly when the season is three quarters over. Also the number of cars still alive for the championship is increased by 2 at each cut. I think that this is at least worth consideration.

A SPECTATOR BOYCOTT?

I read all of DRO, but the letters section is my favorite. Lately, everybody (even me) has an idea or ten on how to "improve" our sport. In the meantime, NHRA, IHRA, ORSCA, and all the rest roll merrily along making money for everyone involved. They ain't gonna fix what they feel isn't broken. I can get free tickets and a seat in one of the sponsor's hospitality areas at NHRA events. But to get my drag racing fix I'd prefer to attend any of the many nostalgia events that take place around the country. Hell, I even pay to get in!

My point is this...if you don't like what you see, stay home. When spectator interest gets to the point where money is being lost, maybe something will change. Until then, go to the track, pay your six or eight bucks for a beer, and shut up.
