Jeremy Hanger’s Studebaker was next with a 6.636/194.69 followed by rookie Arizona racer Joe Alsworth in his 1938 Chevy Coupe at 6.935/187.00 mph, John Scialpi and his ‘57 shoebox were next with a best lap of 6.954/189.23. Gary Soulages in his immaculate Ford Lightning Truck cranked out a 7.070/193.41 mph lap. Next on the qualifying sheet was veteran Karl Wilson and his purple blown Vette at 7.193/ 180.55, followed by Billy Dawood’s 7.237/191.90 effort and Tony Marino at 7.523, 181.60 mph.

The first round of Pro Street eliminations saw the Pat Musi-powered nitrous Firebird of Tim Henry from Valencia, Calif., use a 6.388/220.44 heat-of-the-day lap to trailer Tony Marino, who could only manage an off-pace 7.436/180.90 lap. Veteran Pro Mod racer John Scialpi cranked out a 6.69/208.53 in his supercharged ’57 that ended Joe Alsworth’s race day when he could muster only a losing 6.878/ 196.93.
