he Outlaw Fuel Altered Association returned to North Star Dragway for the second time this season to host their eighth of nine 2007 events. It has been a season full of excitement and accomplishments for some, yet a few others would likely prefer to go back in time and sit out their year had they known what the future held.

Donny McSwain rode out a very scary top end final round accident that destroyed his beautiful “Pure Delight” fuel altered on June 23 in Prescott, Arkansas, as he was on his way to the best points finish of his career with a very strong car. Tim Hay’s “High Voltage Hayride” was sidelined after an equally horrific incident that occurred on the starting line the last time the OFAA visited Denton on July 7, which resulted in his car landing atop Jack Hodgson’s “Southern Outlaw” on a ninety degree angle while still running. The cars were in such a position that the two drivers could see each other’s eyes, and Hay actually talked to Jack through their helmets making sure he was okay.

It was a rough summer for some, but on the positive many teams have laid down big numbers this season, especially Travis Bouchey (lead photo) and Bobby Marriott. After struggling in 2006 with a new nitro combination resulting in a pile of hurt parts, a hurt wallet and no final round appearances Bouchey has turned his game around in 2007 with a much more healthy and much faster fuel Fiat now appropriately referred to as “Fasty McNasty.” Prior to the first qualifying session the team discovered a stripped rear main stud, but that was not going to sideline them and they ran it!

Marriott (shown below), for lack of a better word, has owned this year with two low qualifiers, six finals and four wins in seven events and without a doubt will clinch his third OFAA championship by attending this event. North Star Dragway is Marriott’s home track and has treated the “Shockwave” team well as they posted a runner-up effort here (to Bouchey) in July and set both ends of the track record with a 3.93 at 191 mph pass.
