Scotty Cannon Finds Winner’s Circle For First Time in Top Fuel

Scotty Cannon made his bones in the IHRA invented Pro Modified class, winning a record 28 national events and taking home six world championships during his career as a driver, and he had a successful career as a fuel funny car pilot over in the NHRA but never was able to get that national event win he sought. But at the IHRA sanctioned Mopar Canadian Nationals at Canada’s Grand Bend Motorplex Cannon added yet another IHRA “Ironman” to his trophy case with his first Top Fuel victory driving his Evan Knoll backed Top Fueler into the winner’s circle. Cannon drove by Jim Cavaleri driving Jack Ostrander’s 300 Bowl backed in the final. Cannon clocked a 4.967 at 293.92 mph to better Cavaleri’s 5.071 at 256.06 for his first IHRA National Event win in ten years.
In Fuel Funny car Dale Creasy Jr. continued to dominate the IHRA Fuel Coupe competition with his second consecutive win at the Grand Bend Event. Last year he beat NHRA regular Bob Glibertson for his first victory and this year it was Texas based, Confectioner, Mitch King who was his victim in the final round. Creasy combined a holeshot with a 5.233/ 263.51 to hold off a top end charging 5.382/ 272.01 from Creasy. King had come from the eighth spot on the ladder to get into the finals. Bob Gilbertson had low ET of the Funny Cars with a 5.011 clocking.
