Another PSCA Champion, Rich Hoyle (shown) made his second foray to the West Coast Hot Rod Association and it was worth his while. Hoyle took his immaculate ’63 Nova to the pole spot and then proceeded through the field taking out the likes of Jon Bundrant before meeting up with another Chuck Roberts racer, Roger Holder. Holder bested Mark Washington and number two qualifier Scott Oskas to meet up with Hoyle. Hoyle showed why he is a champion and the .012 reaction time added to the quicker ET of 7.913 to Holder’s 8.478 was enough to take the win back to California.

In what was probably the closest final of the event, two yellow Fords fought it out for supremacy in Pro Stock. Daniel Bott III had sat on pole with an 8.547 with Tucson racer Don Bevers (shown) close behind at 8.583. It was Bevers’ experience that won the day when the Pro Stock standout used a .03 starting line advantage to take the win with a slower 8.578 to Bott’s 8.565.
An excited Paul Bartlett sat on pole for the Drag Radial class -- he had struggled for a long time to get his ’71 Chevelle to perform and it all came right at Speedworld with an 8.532-second pass. It was not to be a fairy tale ending for Bartlett, however, as he lost in the second round to Kevin Wallaver.
