TOP DOORSLAMMER

In addition to the three slated ANDRA Pro brackets for the Nitro Champs, the management of Western Sydney also put on an invitational Top Doorslammer bracket. Most of the cars had trouble hooking up in qualifying and up until Mark Belleri’s semi-final 6.13 the majority of runs were in the mid-six second area. Despite this Belleri could not repeat this feat in the final against Maurice Fabietti’s GTO cum Monaro and a crossed up pass was no match for a 6.55 at a slowing 177.66 mph winning pass.

This Willys has the most radical bodywork of any Australian Top Doorslammer. Seen at rest before a run Sean Misfud’s car was receiving help from famed American Pro Mod guru – “Camp” Stanley. It worked as Misfud ran his best ever pass – a 6.30 at 219.19 in the first round of racing. Photo by Ivan Samson.
