| With tuning advice from Glenn Mikres, Urs Erbacher also produced impressive numbers with a 4.812/310 and 4.833/308 putting him into the title runoff against Joon. Problems with the fuel system caught up with the Swiss entry around the 550 foot mark when the motor erupted into a ball of flame lighting up the early evening sky. With new parts on their way from the States and Mikres flying in when his schedule with Scott Kalitta’s Funny Car allow, Erbacher is also looking strong in his sophomore season in Top Fuel. | |

| Making the move from Top Fuel to Nitro Funny Car for 2007 is the Pennzoil-backed team of Kenneth Lorentzon and Hakan Fallstrom. Having acquired a little used Dodge Avenger (“the last one that looked like a car and just the right amount of money for my wallet” to quote Lorentzon) and overcoming some oil feed woes, Fallstrom looked to be well on his way to securing his cross-over licence until the fuel pump failed, the resultant hiccup snapping a conrod, vaporizing the supercharger and pitching the body far into the sky. | |

Following Fallstrom from Pro Mod to Top Fuel and then onto Nitro Funny Car is another Swede Patrik Pers. Shoeing an ex-Toliver/Haddock Camaro fielded by veteran owner Knut Soderquist, Pers also had the odd hiccup in licensing, running over the midtrack foam blocks and then having a half track flash fire as the right side head gaskets were pushed out. A full pull will be required before being signed off, but Nitro Funny Car in Scandinavia appears to be in a state of rude health (especially as the Showtime car is now on it’s way to Norway) not seen since the mid eighties after the sad passing of Lee Anders Hasselstrom.
