Steve Dupond and his unique BAE 521 powered ’48 Ford Coupe is always a joy to watch whether it is on smoky burnouts like this or in the top end as this coupe shaped brick tries to push the air out of its way. After qualifying third with a 6.48 in the exhibition doorslammer class and got by Brett Gillespie’s 34 Ford in the first frame before taking on Maurice  Fabietti in the final. When Fabietti red lighted all Dupond needed was a 6.46/218.94 to take the gold.

Yes, Australia’s favourite blown altered was up to its old tricks getting crossed up on more than one pass. Despite the “wrong way Radici” antics Eric Gouswaard managed to make it to the final of a depleted field only to fall to the front-engined dragster of Wayne Cartledge.

As per usual the Supercharged outlaws provided a lot of fun and excitement as Jim Holley's high stepping Firebird shows. Running on a 7.50 dial-in one would have thought that a .08-over 7.58 would have been a winner but a .203 light and opponent Dave McGraw’s 0.05-over 6.80 put paid to that.
