Race day saw Scott Kalitta continue his dominating performance with laps of 4.67 and 4.56 and a final round winning 4.58. Dave Grubnic wasn’t around for the Top Fuel final when Australian Terry Sainty powered by Grubnic in a first round upset. The final round saw kalitta make a 4.58/325.45 race winning pass when Terry Sainty faded to a troubled 5.63 at only 184 mph.
In a classic Funny Car versus Dragster Top Alcohol division final Wayne Newby (below) in his dragster faced occasional U.S. racer Brett Stevens and used a solid .065 holeshot light combined with a 5.675 ET to give him the win over a quicker but losing 5.657 by Stevens.
Top Doorslammer eliminations saw Peter Lovering, who had a great Top Doorslammer race, topped all qualifiers lap with a 6.31 and then won the bracket defeating Steve Dupond with a 6.40 in the final.
Con Soldatos had his neat look big block powered Brogie style roadster running in the Comp bracket. He top qualified with a 7.06 and also won the bracket with a 7.19
