Pete Rickerson qualified his beautiful ’69 Camaro on to p of the 25-car 6.0 field with a perfect 6.000 run at 114.12 mph. Rickerson made it through to the semis to share in the split purse, along with Jason Richards, Wesley Kelly, and points leader Michael Strickland.

With a 5.313 at 135.56 mph, Alabama’s Lester Pitts put his Corvette in first place on the 5.30 index qualifying sheet. Pitts lost in round two, though, to John Smith, who went on to the pre-empted semis. Joining him there were Jeremy Ellis, number-two qualifier Kenny Acree, and number-three C.G. Knight.
YEAR ONE CHALLENGE

Jon Phillips won the Year One Open Street final with his ’73 Datsun 260Z.

Year One cut its special quarter-mile program down to an eighth mile at Valdosta in order to encourage more participation from the ORSCA regulars. The Year One 7.0 final featured a pair of those entries, with the classic Oldsmobiles of Andy Schaeffer (far lane) and Kevin Thompson facing off and the win going to Schaeffer.
