What emerges is a clear and distinct subculture that transcends age, racial lines and economic boundaries--tight knit, loyal, tolerant, and ultimately clannish, like they were all born under a Cancer moon or something. These guys are in it for the rush and to a lesser extent a possible three minutes of fame. The speed and the freaking balls-out illegality of it all are the perks. Could they actually be drag strip vigilantes?

About a year ago, producers from the Discovery channel came to Greg and the NHB. They needed guidance for a street racing episode that would go underground with mischievous
folk in the UK, Mexico City, and Tokyo, as well as the Long Island contingent, Phat Rat presiding. To expedite things, Greg provided most of the footage for the LI segment. The UK guys beat up like we do. The Pacific Rim boys are some bad-ass drifters. The Mexico City segment is more about being seen and hanging out than racing and even includes the parents of the starring young driver. His mother would rather he didn’t race because it is so dangerous, but since the father encourages and abets the son, what is the mother to say? It is not her place to say anything, at least according to the mores of Mexican culture.
The Discovery piece has yet to air and early fall is the best word. Go to www.liextreme.com or www.2fast2real.com for the latest dope.
