Some Thoughts On the Season So Far

As the Pros enter the much-heralded Countdown to the Championship I had some thoughts on the NHRA season so far.

Would NHRA please begin their search to replace Paul Page for 2008… now?

Jerry Archambeault and Jim Trace - get on the phone to secure a talent contract for the permanent services of John Kernan on the NHRA TV show in 2008!  What an improvement!

Just what was it that previously held Tom Compton and his minions back from taking NHRA to the Next Level?

Could NHRA media stop throwing the diversity, ethnic and “successful women driver” cards?  We all know how important women and minorities have been in drag racing.

Has anybody noticed how the new Countdown overshadowed the importance of the U.S. Nationals on the TV show?  Or was much of that from Paul Page and the ESPN2 director’s fawning over something new.

Have professional teams in the Countdown now started working on their acting skills, when a non-Countdown teammate takes one for the team so they won’t get a memo from Graham Light?

If the U.S. Nationals is really

such an important race to the competitors, why can’t NHRA acknowledge that importance with buying time to air the final rounds on the ABC Network for maximum exposure to the mainstream TV viewer?

If the U.S. Nationals is really such an important race to the competitors, why can’t NHRA spend the bucks to make the lanes as equal as possible?  Will HD Partners Acquisition Corp. even consider facilities upgrades in the future?  Or will racers race there no matter what?

When Mike Ashley cheers enthusiastically in post race interviews of the power in Torco Race Fuels is it all just hype or is his team not using the mandated VP nitro in his Indy winning flopper?  Fuel check!

Do you think NHRA can find someone better than Saliva as the front band for next year?  Was the decision to book them for the entire season just based upon the bottom line or nepotism?

Can’t NHRA get any more star power to sing the National Anthem at the prestigious U.S. Nationals than Country singer Danielle Peck?  Wasn’t Aerosmith available?

What happened to synchronized military aircraft flyovers at the beginning of NHRA national events?  NASCAR seems to have no problem getting multiple flyovers every weekend. Is NHRA drag racing still the #2 motorsport?

Has anyone from NHRA or HD Partners Acquisition Corp. ever purchased a ticket to a NASCAR Nextel Series event to see how the customer is treated? Tom and Eddy, if you ever go, please stay out of the luxury sky boxes and terrace suites to sit with the common folk. There’s no way you’ll find the Next Level without losing your NASCAR envy, NASCAR knows very clearly how to treat their customers and racers -- and it works.
