n 1967, when my tenure began as Race Director at Orange County International Raceway, we had been in California for three days. The racer who won Stock Eliminator at the Grand Opening was Bob Lambeck. His ride was an impressive 1957 Chevrolet 150 two door sedan. The field he defeated contained in excess of 100 cars so I was impressed. Bob took a little time to introduce himself to me and we started what has been a long friendship through drag racing.

OCIR, Aug. 5, 1967  Bob Lambeck, drove this ’57 Chevy ‘shoe box‘ to one of eight NHRA Eliminator positions at the Grand Opening of the Irvine, Ca. Super Track.

Bob’s driving ability was noticed by Chrysler executives who suggested to Dick Landy that he hire the youthful Lambeck as a second driver for his increasing stable of ‘hot rods’. This relationship, which lasted three years, produced immediate results.
