Just Wondering… When will the NHRA national event track operators -- who are, according to my sources, seeing a dramatic drop in revenues not to mention profit at NHRA national events -- begin demanding changes in the national event format and costs? And more importantly, what will those changes be?
Just Wondering… Is the X-DRL just a dead man walking? They had a miserable pro class car count at their recent event at Royce Miller’s Maryland International Raceway. Perhaps the most shocking was that just six mountain-motor Pro Stocks, three Pro Mods and one Pro Turbo car showed and from the pics we got from the X-DRL there were just about as many fans as there were pro cars. I’d say it was time for Jeff Mitchell to take his losses, try to pay off the racers still owed money and call it a career as far as running a drag racing sanctioning body goes.
Just Wondering… I hear the NHRA suits had a meeting in Dearborn with the Ford brass just two weeks prior to the GM announcement that Chevrolet would sponsor the U.S. Nationals. Just wondering, what didn’t the NHRA offer the Ford Motor Company to keep them involved with the professional NHRA series?Just Wondering… I’m adamantly against the use of Performance Enhancing Drugs (PEDs) by any athlete in professional sports and that includes auto racing, but does the sport and specifically the NHRA really need to hold a six year-old responsible for taking prescribed medications for a debilitating disease that he or she been prescribed by a doctor? Does it make sense to brand a youngster as a cheater? And trust me, when a young child loses his/her NHRA license because of drug issues it will go public and the kid’s life could be affected. Surely there is a better solution that what we have now.
Just Wondering… What “grassroots” drag racing is the Ford Motor Co. supporting that they said in their statement regarding leaving the NHRA Mello Yello professional circuit? Those Cobra Jets cost about 100 Grand, as best as I can determine. That hardly qualifies as “grassroots racing” in my opinion.
Just Wondering… Will the new all-sports TV networks from NBC and Fox seek out drag racing programming or will ESPN continue to dominate? Start your email and letter writing campaign now.
