Just Wondering... How can anyone take the complaining by NHRA sportsman racers seriously when a combined 300+ of them ponied up the entry fees to race in Stock and Super Stock at the U.S. Nationals? How bad can the program be when over 300 sportsman racers enter in just two classes?
Just Wondering... Whatever happened to the great relationship between the Indianapolis Star and the National Hot Rod Association? In the past, the U.S. Nationals was a big part of the Star’s sports and news coverage during the Labor Day weekend. Front page stories and photos during race week were common. At this year’s Nats the coverage was slim to nonexistant, according to the DRO staffers who were there and bought a paper, starting on Tuesday morning.
Just Wondering... Why don’t they just reduce the pro fields to the ten teams that make the Countdown and really make winning races early in the NHRA season all-important?
Just Wondering... Since NHRA shortened the race track to 1,000 feet so the track would be safe speedwise, why don’t they return to offering points for resetting the national speed records?
Just Wondering... What would be wrong with reducing NHRA’s completely unreal 8.90 index to a 7.90 index and restricting the class to open-wheel cars only? Then lower the 9.90 index to an 8.90 and limit it to door cars only. And while they are at it, put those classes on a pro tree! Bracket racers who couldn’t run those numbers could move to Stock and Super Stock, which are just glorified bracket classes anyway.
Just Wondering... Can anyone explain to me why the NHRA doesn’t offer a Jr. Funny Car class to complement the Jr. Dragster class? I saw one at an IHRA-sanctioned track and it was waaay cooool!
Just Wondering... Why don’t they either take the wheelie bars off of NHRA’s Pro Stock cars or make a rule that requires the wheels to be at least 12 inches off the ground? It would damn sure make those cars much more entertaining to watch and -- based on what I’m told by drivers -- more fun to drive. And trust me, the PS class needs to be a lot more entertaining.
Just Wondering... Why doesn’t the NHRA hire the folks at Jegs or Lucas to develop a new trophy for the winners at NHRA races that aren’t national events? Save the Wally only for the winners of NHRA national events and make it special again.
Just Wondering... Will the new NHRA theme song be that old ‘60s hit “They call me Mellow Yellow” by the folk singer Donovan? I’m setting the over and under line for when we hear that song on an ESPN2 broadcast at three.
Just Wondering... Will the ADRL or IHRA pick up Paul Page as an announcer for 2013? If they tried, would he do it?
Just Wondering... Why do John Force and his sponsors have to pay for a full page ad in USA Today and the NHRA and their major sponsors evidently
won’t or don’t?
Just Wondering... I wonder if IHRA’s parent company, Feld Entertainment, purchases ads in major daily newspapers to promote that circuit? Their circuses, ice shows and other motorsports series get that kind of support. ![]()
