Just Wondering … What would be wrong with eight-second, wheels-up, 160-mph iron-motored Pro Stocks? Oh, that’s right, they call those SS/AH don’t they?
Just Wondering … Do either NHRA pres Tom Compton or IHRA pres Aaron Polburn have a hot rod in their garage? Have they ever spent their own time and money to build one? Gee, with the salaries those guys are getting paid you would think they would, wouldn’t you?
Just Wondering … Should the NHRA and IHRA organizations have a rule like our country does: The president can only serve two four-year terms and then someone else gets a chance. As a dues-paying member I say either it’s that or we start impeachment proceedings! Damn, I forgot to take my reality medication again!
Just Wondering … Are the suits at Glendora now wishing they had taken the offer to buy the NHRA that Bruton Smith keeps saying was on the table? Does Bruton have any interest in buying the NHRA any more? I’m betting not!
Just Wondering … Does the 10 points an NHRA pro team now is awarded for attending an event and making a qualifying lap give the eight to ten Top Fuel and Funny Car teams that run all 24 NHRA events an unfair advantage?
Just Wondering … If the ADRL gets a core group of nitro-burning Pro Extreme cars, will Roger Gustin over at the Super Chevy Shows allow his Nitro Coupes to burn larger percentages of nitro instead of the 30 percent max they are allowed now?
Just Wondering … What would the average nitro junkie rather pay: Sixty dollars for a “big show” nitro car on 90 percent, rev-limiter, and 1,000-foot tracks or $30 to watch a Nostalgia Nitro car on 98 percent, no rev limiter, racing a quarter mile?
Just Wondering … Why the IHRA and the NHRA ever got away from Top Fuel Bikes?
Just Wondering … Why not allow Vettes and Vipers to compete in Pro Stock? It just no longer makes any sense on any level to exclude those body styles. Besides, all Pro Stocks are one- or two-seaters now anyway.
Just Wondering … Whatever happened to fire burnouts? Will they make a return with the increased popularity of Nostalgia fuel racing?
Just Wondering … Why doesn’t the NHRA add more nitro classes instead of limiting the number of nitro classes? More nitro means more fans every time.
Just Wondering … If a photographer on the NHRA starting line doesn’t wear that lame-looking vendor vest does that mean he can’t be seen? And if it really is a safety issue, why don’t the NHRA photogs have to wear them?
Just Wondering … Why is it that regular photographers working on assignment are restricted to certain areas behind the guardwalls for their own safety but NHRA photographers and ESPN TV cameramen and their helpers can virtually go anywhere on the starting line area they want? Are those guys bulletproof?
Just Wondering … Why do the NHRA announcers, or any announcer at a drag race for that matter, seem to
think they have to talk all of the time? Are they getting paid by the word? Do I really need them to read thenumbers off those gigantic scoreboards that also tell me who wins and who loses? Are there that many sight-impaired fans? I just sometimes wish that at a drag race I didn’t have to hear someone talking every minute. ![]()
