AAFD, AAFC, WCOPMA and more at Governors Cup this weekend

The penultimate Heritage Series event for nostalgia Top Fuel is this weekend during the 43rd annual Governors Cup Championship at Sacramento Raceway.

Although information is sketchy, among those AA/FD’s who have pre-entered are Jim Murphy’s WW2 dragster, Mendy Fry driving Mike Fuller’s “Forever Young”, recent Saturday Night Nitro winner Brendan Murray’s “Running Wild”, Terry Cox in the “Cheetah IV”, Nightfire Nationals winner Adam Sorokin in the “Champion Speed Shop” dragster, Rick Williamson driving the Team Craig top fueler and possibly Rick White in the Neal & White digger. The points leader Jimmy Young in Frank Ousley’s “Crop Duster” will skip the Governors Cup and the car returns to the west coast with Paul Romine driving the dragster at the Hot Rod Reunion in October.

You’ll also see 7.0 Pro, Drag Bikes, Pro Gas, Pro Comp, 10.5 cars and Outlaw 8.5 with gates open Saturday at noon. For more info check out Sacramento Raceway’s website (Paul Schmitz photo) [9/14/2012]

West Coast Pro Mod Association expects 10-12 entries at Governor’s Cup

The West Coast Outlaw Pro Mod Association will be at the Sacramento Raceway Park Governor’s Cup for the first time since September 2010. The points battle for the 2012 Championship is very close and this race will have major implications about determining the 2012 Championship. Both Rod Burbage (shown) and Mike Maggio could be the champion at the end of the year, Burbage currently leads the standings with a 144 point lead over Maggio but the Maggio Motorsports team is undefeated so far this season at the WCOPMA events they have attended.
