Remnants of Hurricane Sandy can’t stop MiRock finals at Rockingham

North America’s worst storm ever won’t stop the world’s quickest streetbikes from making their way through snow and high water to reach North Carolina’s Rockingham Dragway. Steve Earwood’s legendary speed plant will be prepped and fast for the finals of the Mickey Thompson Performance Tires MIRock Superbike Series.

The most intense action of the weekend is likely to occur in MIRock’s knock-down-drag-out bracket racing throwdown, the Tournament of Champions. This season’s winners in Brock’s Performance Street ET and Nitrous Express Pro ET square off mano y mano for big prizes and bragging rights.

MIRock racing won’t officially begin until Saturday, Nov. 3, but the track will be open for private MiRock testing from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Friday, preceding a regular weekly test-and-tune session from 6-11 p.m. For more information go to www.rockinghamdragway.com. [11/1/2012]

How are New Jersey drag strips doing?

And speaking of Hurricane Sandy, we’ve been in contact with several people in the New Jersey area to check on the status of the Englishtown and Atco tracks, but haven’t been able to get any definitive information since power, telephone and Internet service is out or spotty at the moment.

If anyone has any information, please contact jeffburk@dragracingonline.com.

Our best wishes to all in the New Jersey and New York areas affected. In the meantime, we suggest contributing to the American Red Cross as residents of the area will need help for quite some time. [11/1/2012]

Maple Grove Raceway offices are open again, racing this weekend is on

Maple Grove Raceway’s offices reopened on Thursday morning, Nov. 1,  as Met-Ed restored electric power to its section of Brecknock Township, Pa. The track went offline after Hurricane Sandy went through the area late Monday night.

As of Thursday afternoon, this weekend’s events – Saturday’s test and tune and Sunday’s Ghosts and Goblins at The Grove – are still on the schedule. [11/1/2012]
