DRAGRACINGONLINE.COM TO BACK AA/FC RACE AT KCIR

Nostalgia race promoter John Troxel called DRO’s Jeff Burk and asked if DRO would be interested in helping put on a AA/FC race within the Muscle Car Reunion and Nostalgia Drags race scheduled at Kansas City International Raceway on October 3-5. “Hell yeah,” the Burkster responded.
So, after several conversations, here is the program. It will be an eight-car booked-in field for a Chicago Style race. There will be a qualifying lap on Friday and another on Saturday, then the two quickest cars will make a second lap on Saturday night for the glory, title and MONEY!
Here is the info on the payout: All cars will be paid $1,000 per lap, so everyone will make a minimum of $2,000. The two quickest cars that return will get an additional $1,000 each. The payouts are non-negotiable, so don’t call or ask!
We will work on securing additional sponsorship/contingency money for the race. One of the perks for winning, aside from the trophy, fame, and cash, is that the winner will be the feature car for DRO’s October issue.
You will have to sign a contract, and you must make at least one six-second pass at the event to get paid. Also, all AA/FC competitor’s pay checks will be cashed at the event. So, if you are a AA/FC team and have interest in being booked for this event, contact John Troxel at 573-291-0907, M-F 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (Central). (James Drew photo) [7/23/2008]
OUT FROM UNDER WATER, CEDAR FALLS TO RE-OPEN THIS WEEKEND
After sitting under water along with much of the state, it is time for the Grand Re-Opening of Iowa’s Cedar Falls Raceway. The Night of Fire weekend gets underway with a Friday Fun Night (July 25) and test-n-tune open to everyone. Then on Saturday (July 26) it is the Red Cross Night of Fire presented by Don Schumacher Racing.
“It’s been a lot of work and headaches to get this place ready again,” said manager Dan Driscoll. “We had to scrub the race track several times, replace water and septic lines, dig trenches, replace electrical lines and more.”
The Red Cross Night of Fire features nitro nostalgia Top Fuel dragsters, jets, gassers, nitro nostalgia Funny Cars, Super Shifters, Nitro Harleys, and Iowa’s only AA-Nitro Funny Car, Jack Wyatt. The legendary Arnie “the Farmer” Beswick (shown) will also attend. Admission is free on the spectator side with a modest cross into the pit fee of only $15 (optional). All proceeds will go to the American Red Cross Tornado and Flood Victims Relief Fund. (DRO file photo) [7/23/2008]
