NITRO UPDATE: AGENT’S SOURCE SAYS ‘NO SHORTAGE, NO BARGAINS’

Agent 1320 got a call from one of his nitro sources this morning with some further info regarding the possible “nitro shortage” this summer. His words were that VP Fuels, the official supplier of nitro for NHRA, had just taken delivery of an 80-drum container of 100% nitro and in addition the folks at VP had enough barrels of nitro of varying other percentages in secure storage to supply all of their customers for the foreseeable future. This is a very good source that the Agent trusts. This is good news all ‘round. To paraphrase the Agent’s old Texan great-granddad, “Booze, cigarettes, and nitro are cheap at any price.” [5/9/2008]

SPEEDING INTO THE ENGLISH SPRING

After snow at Santa Pod during the Easter Thunderball, the Springspeed Festival at Shakespeare County Raceway took place at a critical point in the early season for those chasing championships. But, once again the British weather failed to play the game, with rain wiping out half of the three-day event, restricting competition to a single day of qualifications (terminated early when an errant Pro Mod demolished the Christmas tree) and a partially completed eliminations series (terminated by the curfew in place at the track). Here is Chris Hartnell in the Backdraft slingshot, part of the Wild Bunch. We’ll have complete results and plenty of photos on Monday from our European correspondents Ivan Sansom and Rose Hughes.
