CANNONBALL RACING PARTNERS WITH MARK PULLEN
The Teams of Scotty Cannon and Mark Pullen have joined forces to run a two-car IHRA Pro Modified effort for the remaining 10 races on the 2008 schedule. This team will put Scotty Cannon back in the cockpit beginning with the MIR President’s Cup Nationals in June. The team will run only one car with Scott Cannon Jr. behind the wheel at this weekend’s IHRA Motor City Nationals at Milan Dragway. Mark Pullen has owned several Pro Modified cars in the past, competing at a few IHRA events as well as outlaw Pro Mod events.
Scotty Cannon will be absent from this weekend’s event due to an already scheduled business trip to the Middle Eastern country of Dubai. Cannon is tuning the car he sold due to the loss of his sponsorship.
“I told these guys when they bought the car I would be able to help run the car because without a sponsor we would not be at the remaining events. It looks like now we will be at all the races with two cars just like our original plan. Mark has stepped up as well as Damien Moore from Moore’s Body shop in Baltimore because they want to see us continue to race.” (photo courtesy Scotty Cannon) [5/20/2008]
WORLD FOOTBRAKE CHALLENGE DRAWS ENTRANTS TO BRISTOL DRAGWAY
The World Footbrake Challenge returns to Thunder Valley on May 23-25 with big purses on the line each day. The winner of Saturday’s eliminations takes home an impressive check for $50,000, while winners on Friday and Sunday collect $10,000 each.
Bristol Dragway hosted the inaugural event last season, and the event saw drivers from 24 states.
“The list continues to grow and we look forward to another amazing year in Bristol,” said event promoter, Jared Pennington. “We have an entrant from Canada, our first from outside the country, and he looks forward to coming just because the event is in Bristol.”
The World Footbrake Challenge is an eighth-mile event that will see racers depend on their driving skills to take home the top prize. In footbrake competition, drivers are not allowed to use electronic equipment to help them achieve a perfect start. [5/20/2008]

PITTSBURGH IHRA EVENT POSTPONED TO 2010
The IHRA Nitro Jam event scheduled for Pittsburgh Raceway Park has been moved from May 2009 to 2010.
Mike Tedesco of PRP said, “We will carry out our plan to begin construction after the close of the 2008 race season. The undertaking involves moving dirt, building a new tower, laying down nine acres of asphalt, adding new concrete barriers, and lengthening the track.” He added, “I empathize with those fans who may be a little disappointed. Please take assurance in the words I was taught as a kid: Good things come to those who wait.”
And even better things come to those who wait longer? [5/20/2008]
