MUSCLE CAR COLLECTIONS GO TO AUCTION

Five significant Mopars, from the collection of Rick Perez, will be for sale at the fourth annual Houston Classic Auction on May 3 at the Lakewood Yacht Club in Seabrook, TX. The Sox & Martin ’68 Cuda, one of approximately ten built and the sole small block car ever raced, will be among the cars. A letter from Ronnie Sox is included, confirming that this was the car that raced.
Four other Mopars from the Perez collection will be on the block, along with 17 other muscle cars. A full color catalog is available in advance for $50, which includes auction admission for two, at www.wwgauctions.com [3/19/2008]

Here are a couple of shots of the construction of concrete guard walls at Cordova Dragway Park. Snow was on the ground March 11 but it’s gone as of March 19.
Laura Gardner tells us that Dan Crownhart from Sterling Fence has been working (even with hip-deep snow) to get the metal guard rails removed.
He has removed the I-beam posts to get ready for the metal framing to be built in preparation for Slip Tech to pour the wall.
Also working on this project are CDP’s own Tazz, Dan Driscoll, Dan Beale, Sisson Excavation, and Hinricks Construction (Tim Hinricks Motorsports). Now if the weather just cooperates. [3/19/2008]
VP EXTENDS CONTINGENCY PROGRAM FOR IHRA
VP Racing Fuels announced the extension of its contingency program for IHRA competitors at national events for the 2008 season. Continuing a program it started three seasons ago, it will be administered independent of IHRA, according to Steve Scheidker ,Director-Marketing & Communications for VP.
“VP has been a major and consistent supporter of dragracing throughout its 33-year history through contingency programs and other sponsorships,” said Scheidker. “We want to reward IHRA competitors who use VP fuels, but because IHRA has an exclusive agreement with its Official Fuel sponsor, it precludes us from posting awards through the series or working directly with them to administer the program. So we’ll manage the program ourselves and ask racers simply to provide the appropriate documentation to us.”
Contingency postings include the following:
TF, NFC, PM, RC, PS: $500 to winner; $100 to runner-up
TS, TD, SS, STK, QR, SR, HR: $300 to winner; $100 to runner-up
ET: $100 to winner; $50 to runner-up
VP’s program will be effective starting at the first national event April 3-6 in San Antonio, TX. [3/19/2008]
