DAVID POWERS TO BUILD SHOP IN BROWNSBURG
David Powers Motorsports will locate its new team headquarters, garage and testing facility in Brownsburg, IN. The race team will invest more than $3 million to build its new 30,000 square-foot facility and will begin hiring engineers, technicians and logisticians later this year.
David Powers Motorsports fields the two-car Top Fuel operation of drivers Whit Bazemore and Rod Fuller. Fuller leads the NHRA Top Fuel points standings heading into this weekend’s NHRA U.S. Nationals at Indianapolis’ O’Reilly Raceway Park, while Bazemore, a 20-time NHRA winner, ranks seventh in the class.
Wonder if they’ll use Caterpillar tractors to help with the building? [8/29/2007]
MANZO GETS 70TH SPORTSMAN WIN

MONGOOSE ON THE MEND
Tom “The Mongoose” McEwen was hospitalized after he suffered a minor heart attack last week. A quick conversation with DRO editor, Jeff Burk, showed McEwen to be feeling better, although he was told to take it easy, watch his weight, and limit salt intake. Good advice for us all. Mongoose will be back selling ads for Drag Racer magazine before you can hide your checkbook. [8/29/2007]
THE END OF AN ERA

This drive-in has been an Indy staple for years, but not after this weekend. Wonder what’s playing? (Mark Westfall photo) [8/29/2007]
SCELZI SAYS
We have heard from a couple of sources that Gary Scelzi has said if he were to return to drag racing after his sabbatical that is supposed to start next year, he would need a jet plane to get to the races. Maybe he’s been hanging around those roundy-round racers too much?
The Agent flies to the races on a jet too … of course, his is usually the middle seat in Coach class on a Boeing MD-80.[8/29/2007]
