BONIFERRO GETS PMRA WIN
A large contingent of Pro Modified Racing Association (PMRA) competitors showed up at the Grand Bend Motorplex to do battle in the track’s “Castrol Thunder By the Beach – PMRA Challenge” weekend show, and Joe Boniferro of Niagara Falls, ON, won his first PMRA event.
The win was the first for Boniferro, and his win marked the eighth different team victory in nine PMRA events for 2005 and 2006. Taking runner-up was new PMRA member Jerry Bowles of Gadshill, ON, in his Diamond Motorsports, 526 Alan Johnson-powered 1941 Willys. Boniferro posted his winning 6.756-second, 195.49 mph race over Bowles’ 6.997-second, 190.11 mph run.
“We finally got one,” said the driver of the Smokin’ Joe’s Dodge Avenger Pro Modified. “The track was a little slippery there in the final. I saw him coming up on me, but was able to put a little more into it to stay ahead at the finish.” (photo courtesy PMRA) [9-8-2006]
OUTLAW 10.5 VS. LIMITED STREET
Here's a creative race the Agent can really get behind. Phenix City (AL) Dragstrip has arranged for four leading Outlaw 10.5 teams to face off Dec. 3, against four of the best Limited Street runners. A staggered pro tree will give the Limited Street guys a .300 head start toward a no breakout finish. Scheduled to represent Outlaw 10.5 in the $10,000 race are Team Skull members Jack Barfield and Marcus Birt, along with Mike "The Hitman" Hill and VIP Racing's Michael Robinson. Lining up in Limited Street trim will be Jeff Cooner, Darrin Hoyle, David Reese (shown), and Keith Szabo and, if there's enough interest in the idea, the track may add a similar race for 6.0 vs. 7.0 index competitors. At least now you know where to find the Agent in December. (Ian Tocher photo) [9-8-2006]
