NMRA VS NMCA AT JOLIET

For the first time ever, the National Mustang Racers Association will race against the National Muscle Car Association hot shots. Sponsored by Motive Gear and Nitto Tire, the “Super Bowl of Street Legal Drag Racing I” will be held July 27-30 at Route 66 Raceway in Joliet, IL. Eleven classes from each sanctioning body will be matched up, going heads up on a pro tree.

In addition there will be two separate car shows, a manufacturers’ midway, and exhibition runs by Paul Miller’s Danchuck jet funny car.  [7-21-2006]

ROUSH, JR. TO DRIVE AT ‘SUPER BOWL’

Jack Roush, Jr. will return to the driver's seat during the July 28-30 Motive Gear NMRA/NMCA Super Bowl of Street Legal Drag Racing, and the day cannot come quick enough for the 33-year old son of motorsports legend Jack Roush.

"It's been three months now since I last raced competitively and I am really antsy to get back behind the wheel and see what I can do in Joliet," said Roush. "At the first event the ROUSH team ran with this car, Kyle (Carrothers) put down some really solid numbers so I have my work cut out for me to match what he did, but I am going to give it my best shot."

Roush and Carrothers are sharing the driving duties behind the wheel of a 2001 Ford Mustang which is being used by ROUSH Performance as a research and development vehicle for the company's line of crate engines.  [7-21-2006]

HOOVER, THOMPSON BACK IN FUNNY CAR

Eurodragster.com editor Andy Rogers dropped the Agent a note saying that long-retired fuel coupe drivers Tom “Showtime” Hoover and England’s legendary driver Harlan Thompson have decided to get the firesuits out of the cleaners and get back in a fuel car. According to Tog, Hoover and Thompson will be driving in an eight-car Top Fuel match race at the Bahrain International Circuit in October. It isn’t clear if the men will be in driving fuel coupes or dragsters. The only question the Agent has is, Wasn’t there another race scheduled at this same track last year that was canceled at the last minute?  [7-21-2006]

‘ICEMAN’ TO LOBBY IHRA FOR NO-LIMIT NITROUS CARS?

Evidently, in response to a letter written and widely circulated by Pro Mod veteran racer Charles Carpenter that claimed that nitrous cars and engines had reached their peak of development and Shannon Jenkins’ refuting of that letter, Mr. Jenkins reportedly is going to have a meeting with IHRA officials at the IHRA national event in Cayuga, Onatrio, Canada, this weekend to lobby for rule changes to make nitrous cars more competitive.

Since the only restrictions on those cars now is weight and engine cubic inches, the Agent has to believe that Jenkins will lobby for lifting those restrictions also. DRO would support that rule change whole heartedly.  [7-21-2006]

‘CAPTAIN CHAOS’ LOOKS AROUND

According to one of the Agent’s operatives, the Nitro Fish Wear Dodge Stratus Pro Stocker driven by Mike Thomas (shown) has Johnson Hemi power between the frame rails for the NHRA Seattle race. After Allen Johnson’s stout qualifying effort at the Denver Mile-Highs, Koretsky hinted that it was time to try out another engine builder.

“Captain Chaos,” who’s been leasing Larry Morgan racing engines for his crew chief Eddie Guarnaccia, also said this was a temporary change to see what other Hemi engine builders had to offer. Last year at the Seattle race, Thomas grabbed the No. 1 qualifying position and set a new track record of 6.661.  [7-21-2006]
