ALTERED SPELLING

UK photographer Lawrie Gatehouse, who also organizes (or should we say organises) the Nostalgia Fuel Altered Association, sent some photos of John Wright's "Chaos" altered. Wright completed his licensing (licencing) runs at the SPRC Summernationals at Santa Pod held June 17-18 (17th-18th June). [6-23-2006]

SCHUMACHER FINALLY HITS THE TRIFECTA

For the last several years Don Schumacher has been saying he would like to have a three-car Pro Stock effort. The sudden split between Dick Maskin and Rickie Smith has evidently made that happen. Reports have Smith joining Schumacher and bringing his Evan Knoll Skull Shine sponsorship with him. Rickie evidently still plans to race his IHRA Pro Stocker when his schedule allows.

Smith is acknowledged as one of the master clutch tuners in Pro Stock and his expertise in that area can only help Scumacher’s Pro Stock efforts. [6-23-2006]

MALCOLM DURHAM DIES

One of the pioneer Funny Car racers from the 1960's, Malcolm Durham, succumbed to lung cancer on June 22. One of drag racing's first black superstars, the Washington "D.C. Lip" was a fixture on the East Coast match-racing scene. Durham ran Super Stock in the early '60s and moved into Funny Car in the '70s. His "Strip Blazer" FC was the first in the eight-second zone for Chevrolets.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete, but the family asks that donations be made to the American Cancer Society or to your local hospital's oncology department.
