DRAGWAY IS OFFICIALLY OPEN

Going into its fourth event since moving to a new location on the property, Auto Club Dragway at California Speedway has officially reopened for competition. Speedway President Gillian Zucker and Automobile Club of Southern California President and CEO Tom McKernan did the ceremonial ribbon cutting. Thanks to the AAA funding, construction of the new dragstrip was moved along on a fast track and in record time, being completed in approximately 60 days under Director of Operations Mike Yurick and Track Manager Dave Danish.


After the ceremonies, Fast Jack Beckman took Gillian Zucker on an 8.70 pass down the fresh quarter mile at over 150 mph in a Frank Hawley Driving School two-seater dragster. After the run Dave Danish, a relieved Zucker and Beckman smiled for the photogs.

According to Division Director Mike Rice, over 600 competitors are expected for this weekend’s NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Division 7 event. (James Drew photos) [6-23-2006]

KIMMELYNN BUFF-PESZ GOING TAD RACING? 

The Agent got a note from Kimmelyn Buff who is married to Pro Mod driver Brandon Pesz to let us know that the family plans to run their alky car. According to her note, "We do plan to run the alcohol car. My Dad has committed to keeping his word: 'If Troy ever gets a Top Fuel deal then you can get your license.'

"This has been the statement I've heard my whole life," Kimmelyn says. "We plan to go out and get a license soon." [6-23-2006]
