TRUCKIN‚ ORSCA STYLE
Three years after beginning construction, Paul Baxter debuted this '69 Chevy C10 pick-up at the recently completed ORSCA event at U.S. 19 Dragway in Albany, GA. Competing under the NSR (No Sanity Required) Racing banner, the Canton, GA-based team qualified 12th in EZ Street with a 6.657 at 105.14 mph, but fell in the opening round after running 6.988/117.50 against Tommy Brewer. The mostly home-built truck, put together by Baxter, his son Brady and wife Kasey, sports a 540 c.i. big block fitted with conventional Chevy heads. It also features a rollcage and headers fabricated by Steve Tucker at Southeast Racecars and paint by Jesse Troutman. Baxter hopes to have an even better showing his next time out with the new ride July 7-9, at the Atlanta Dragway ORSCA event. (Ian Tocher photo) [6-2-2006]
DAVIS SCORES A TRIPLE
Ronnie Davis won his third race in a row in less than two weeks. At Carolina Dragway's TNT (Thursday Night Thunder) races Davis was No. 1 qualifier with a 4.35 at 170 mph. In eliminations he ran 4.35, 4.30 and 4.32 for the win. Davis was in 17 final rounds in 2005 and has already been in eight in 2006. Can he break his own record? Only his hair dresser know for sure… (Ian Tocher photo) [6-2-2006]
MEGA-BUCKS SERIES BEGINS AT GATEWAY
“Sugar” Shane Carr (Hendersonville, TN) was the biggest money winner at Gateway’s 1st MegaBucks of 2006. Carr, who won his first IHRA national event and his first NHRA
national event at Gateway, was the winner of Saturday’s $10,000 to win event. Carr battled through the 280-competitor field to take the win. Carr was matched up against Luke Bogacki (Woodville, AL) in the final round and won when Bogacki red-lit. Bogacki took home $4,000 for his runner-up appearance.
Buddy Ferrell (Brighton, TN) started off Gateway’s $ 5,000 - $ 10,000 - $ 5,000 weekend on a great note when he won Friday night’s MegaBucks. Ferrell took home $5,000 for the win on Friday night, but continued to receive daily payments from Gateway as Ferrell had a Quarters and 1/8’s finish on Saturday and was the runner-up on Sunday.
On Sunday, Ferrell was defeated in the Final Round by Tim Cmar (South Whitley, IN). Cmar’s $ 5,000 win on Sunday followed up Mark Cmar’s semi-final appearance on Sunday, making it a good weekend for the Cmar family. [6-2-2006]
