VICK TAKES QUICK 8 WIN

Steve Vick of Mocksville, NC, backed up his win at the May 20th ADRL event in Memphis by getting the Quick 8 Racers Association event win the following weekend at Farmington (NC) Dragway. Vick qualified No. 1 with a 4.064/179.61 on the eighth mile, and then took out Greg Godwin and Rod Houck to meet Thomas Dunford in the final round. A starting line advantage gave Vick's 4.11 e.t. the win over Dunford's quicker 4.10.  (Jeff Burk photo)  [5-31-2006]

NHRA LOSES TWO FUEL FUNNY CAR TEAMS

The rumor the Agent heard concerning Jack Wyatt’s loss of his sponsorship by the Race Girl apparel folks evidently is sadly true, as Wyatt’s name didn’t show up on the Funny Car sheets at the just completed NHRA event at Topeka, KS. Wyatt’s sponsorship was believed to be at least partially dependent on the sales of the Race Girl T-shirts and other trinkets. Evidently they simply weren’t selling enough to support Wyatt’s racing operation. Look for Wyatt to run the more affordable IHRA circuit where he’s already won a race, is solidly in the top ten in points, and stands to collect bonus money at the end of the season.

The Agent also hears that Frank Pedregon was forced to return the operation he bought a couple of years ago to the previous owner due to lack of funding.

This is especially discouraging to the Agent as Frank Pedregon certainly fielded a competitive and winning team.

Despite his team’s fine record over the last two years, he apparently wasn’t able to attract a serious money sponsor, the Von Dutch deal not withstanding.

With the loss of these two Funny Car teams, don’t be surprised if you see a lot more NHRA races where only 18 Funny Cars vie for one of the 16 available qualifying slots. [5-31-2006]
